Neil
Coey

In the studio .. he plays guitar, Bass,
Sings Lead & Harmony Vocals.......He writes some
awesome songs
I
remember as a youngster, visiting my aunts and uncles homes and later in the
evenings they would get out instruments and play old country and bluegrass
tunes.
I soon developed a desire to learn to play and sing.
My first guitar was an old acoustic I borrowed from my aunt.
Every Saturday night I fell asleep listening to the Grand Ole Opry
playing on dad’s radio.
I started writing my first songs at age 15.
Though drifting away from traditional music for a few years and
dabbling in some country, gospel, and yes, even a little rock, I finally came
back around to the bluegrass old- time country sound.
But this wasn’t until the late 80’s, while my time was consumed
following my kids through their school sports years.
As we started to get back into playing, I also started to write
songs again, which is my true passion over singing.
I enjoy performing for an audience, but I really love when I can
see people get touched by the stories the songs tell, and you know that a
certain phrase hit them right in the heart, and they relate to it… that makes
it all worth it!
Tommy
Coey
On Stage at New Beginnings.... He
Plays Banjo, Mandolin, Lead & Harmony Vocals......The comedian of the group
Tommy
is Neil's little brother, even though he forgets to claim him. He
hasn't turned in his bio yet so I am going to tell you a little about
him. I don't really know who inspired him to play the banjo. He
probably was inspired by his big brother. He probably picked the banjo
because they didn't need another guitar. I know they played a lot of
churches when they were young. I really don't know when he became the
jokester of the band. He keeps them guessing what he's going to do
next.
Dave
Morrison
At New Beginnings....
He Plays Dobro, Sings Lead &
Harmony Vocals!
Dave
is the quiet one of the bunch...... Dave is one of those people who can play
anything. He does a lot of studio work for his brother in-law a
Hitmaker studio. He's a great guy and we really love the Dobro in
the band. He also adds a great bass harmony to round out the band...Every
now & then we get him to sing lead. You
can find him at Bahner's auto parts store in Wheelersburg, Ohio, when he's
not playing music....
Mike
Sheppard
THE NEW GUY At Grandma's Alpine
Homestead,
He Plays Bass, Guitar, Lead &
Harmony Vocals He also writes
some awesome songs!
Mike is
from Parkersburg, WV. He has been playing music for
about 15 years. His first instrument of choice is the guitar, but
since
recently joining Blackwater Run he has taken on the upright bass
duties. Mike
was influenced on the guitar by the likes of Tommy Emmanuell, John
Carlini,
Tim Stafford, and Tony Rice. That's a pretty impressive group of
mentors!
Some of Mike's favorite groups are LRB, Doyle Lawson, Blue Highway, and
Blue Moon Rising. Mike is grateful for the love and support he
receives
from his family and friends for his musical endeavors. He would like
to
thank God for the gift of music, and for the talents of all musicians who
inspired him.
We
would like to welcome Mike and feel he will be a great
addition to the group. He will be adding tenor and baritone vocals
to
Blackwater Run's sound, but he is also a great lead singer in his own
right, and
we
intend on making sure he does his share!
Mike
has been writing some really great songs! what a pleasant surprise. He
has 4 songs on our new CD "Greener Pastures!" Check them out! We are
really excited!
